Brendan Iribe is an American game programmer. He is known as the co-founder of Oculus VR, Inc. As of 2018, Brendan Iribe net worth is estimated to be more than $200 million.
Brendan was born on August 12, 1979 in Maryland, United States. He attended Atholton High School in Maryland. He then went to University of Maryland to major in Computer Science but dropped out of the college in two semesters to work as a freelancer programmer.
Iribe started his career as a gaming programmer and worked on the user interface of Civilization IV. He co-founded a Scaleform, a user interface technology provider for PC Games and worked as a CEO. He then worked as product team lead at Gaikai, which is actually a company that provides technology for the streaming of high end video games.
In 2012, he partnered with Palmer Luckey to start a Kickstarter campaign for the Oculus Rift VR Headset brining in about $2.4 million. He took the position as the CEO of Oculus VR. However, in 2016, he stepped down as the CEO and decided to create a newly PC VR group.
He is now leaving Facebook following some internal shake-ups in the company’s after the company cancelled the next generation “Rift 2” PC-powered virtual reality headset.
Brendan is known for his philanthropic activities. In 2014, he donated mammoth $31 million to University of Maryland. $30 million was for the Brendan Iribe Center for Computer Science and Innovation which includes labs for virtual reality, robotics and artificial intelligence while $1 million was donated to establish a scholarship fund.
