Mazdzer was born on June 26, 1988, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He grew up in New York where he first started to get involved with the sport when he was only 8 years old. He studied at the National Sports Academy putting an emphasis on sports and would later go on to attend the DeVry University in Illinois. He got his Bachelors in Business Administration degree there where he majored in finance.

He had previously competed in the 2010 Winter Olympics and the 2014 Winter Olympics. But, it was in the 2018 Winter Olympics that Mazdzer created a name for himself and gave the U.S. a silver medal in the Men’s Single Luge. He is also the first ever non-European to have a medal in this event.
