Villechaize was born on April 23, 1943 in Paris, France as the youngest among four sons. He was born with dwarfism and his father tried to cure his endorcrine disorder but he was unsuccessful. At the age of 16, he went to Ecole des Beaux-Arts to study art. In 1961 at the age of 18, he became the youngest artist ever to have work displayed in the Museum of Paris.

Villechaize started his career working as a painter and photographer. He began acting in Off-Broadway productions until he was cast in 1996 movie Chappaqua. He was known for his role of Nick Nack in 1974 James Bond film ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’ and also starting as Tattoo on the American television series ‘Fantasy Island’.

In addition to that, he also appeared in several movies like Maidstone, The Gang that Couldn’t Shoot Straight, Greaser’s Palace, Seizure, Crazy Joe, The Man with the Golden Gun, Hot Tomorrows, The One and Only, Forbidden Zone, Airplane II: The Sequel, The Telephone and Two Moon Junction. He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a series for his role in Fantasy Island.

Regarding his personal life, he was married twice. He first married Anne Sadowski in 1970 but got divorced in 1979. He then met his second wife Camille Hagen who is also an actress on the set of ‘Fantasy Island’. They were together for only two years after they got divorced in 1982.

On September 4, 1993 at the age of 50, Herve Villechaize committed suicide. The movie titled ‘My Dinner with Herve’ is based on the last few days of his life which is played by Peter Dinklage.
