Gonzalez had problem with his body since 2008. He was hospitalized in 2008 following sugar and blood pressure problems. On February of 2018, Gonzalez was hospitalized after suffering breathing problems. He was later diagnosed with flu.
On June 6, 2018, Jimmy died at a San Antonio Hospital. He was 67 years old. According to sources, he was hospitalized in the hospital few days earlier due to low blood sugar and diabetes. He will be remembered for his contribution in Tejano music.
