Early Life

Todd Joseph Miller was born in Denver, Colorado on June 5, 1981. He is the son of Kent Miller, an attorney from Chanute and a clinical psychologist Leslie Miller. Miller’s parents had European ancestry, his mother, an Ashkenazi Jew, making him German-Jewish and Russian-Jewish while his father who is a Christian is of English, German and Swedish ancestry. Miller’s height is 1.88 metres, and he weighs around 74 kg. Miller attended Graland Country Day School before graduating from Denver’s East High School. While in school, he took part in the school drama production and was often taken as the class clown. 

Upon completing high school, Miller attended George Washington University and obtained a degree in Psychology, following in his mother’s footsteps. His special concentration was on Situation Theory and Social Influence. He was a member of comedy group recess at the university. He studied Circus Arts and Theatre Urban while still in college and later studied Shakespeare during one of his summer holidays in London at the British American Drama Academy.

Miller started his career as a stand-up comedian by moving to Chicago after graduation, performing with many local troupes. He toured with one of the troupes, The Second City, for a couple of years and became popular with the audience. Within this period, Miller got recognized as Variety’s 10 Comics To Watch. Next, Miller towed the steps of other stand-up comedians by releasing a comedy album titled Mash Up AudioFile in 2012, having experienced partial success with previous release of No Real Reason in 2011. While pursuing his comedy career, Miller made some television appearances on Chelsea Lately and ABC Carpoolers as Marmaduke Brookers from 2007 to 2008. 

Acting Career

Miller’s film debut was in Cloverfield in 2008. The following year he starred in two films, The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard and Extract. In 2010, he co-starred in Get Him to the Greek and She’s Out of My League. Miller voiced the character of ‘Tuffnut’ in Hoe To Train Your Dragon and its sequel How To Train Your Dragon 2. Following his release of Mash Up in 2012, he starred in The Goodwin Games before landing a role in HBO sitcom Silicon Valley which premiered on April 6, 2014. He starred as Erlich Bachman, an entrepreneur who runs an innovation incubator in his house and owns 10% of Pied Piper. His role earned him the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2015. However, he spent four seasons with the series, as he announced that he would not return for the 5th season. Also, in 2014, Miller appeared in Transformers: Age of Extinction and voiced the character of Fred in Big Hero 6. Next, he appeared as Jason in Search Party and as Tidal in Jason Nash is Married, all in the same year.

Todd Miller married his longtime girlfriend Kate Gorney on September 16, 2015 at the Denver Botanic Gardens. Kate is an actress and artist who performs under the name Rose Petal Pistol. They met in the college and Miller claimed to have won her with his ‘Pop and lock’ dance the first time they met. The couple are yet to have a child and have both supported Miller’s negative antics off the screen. Miller underwent brain surgery to correct cerebral arteriovenous malformation on his right frontal lobe.

Miller has been slammed with a different accusation over the years and he now sees himself of being made a villain. In 2016, he was arrested and detained for assaulting an Uber driver over an argument that ensured between over Donald Trump, whom Miller never supported. Miller was granted bail at $20,000 and subsequently a settlement was reached between him and the driver in 2018.

With the MeToo movement, Miller was fingered and called out by an anonymous woman who claimed to be his ex-girlfriend at George Washington University back in 2001. The woman code-named as ‘Sarah’ alleged that Miller became violent during their sexual encounter. She alleged Miller punched, shook and choked her during sex with her consent. She further alleged that Miller exhibited some non-sensual acts during her sexual encounter with him. Miller rubbished the accusation, claiming that it was a jilted lover who may probably be a member of the comedy troupe that was asked to leave because of inappropriate behavior. However, some witnesses corroborated the accuser’s story and Miller was declared by the school disciplinarian committee to have ‘expelled’ him despite having graduated. 

The same year, co-star on the HBO sitcom tech-series Silicon Valley Alice Wetterlund accused Miller of bullying and unprofessional behavior on set. This was sequel Danielle Solzman exposure of email of sent to her by Miller, where he used a lot slurs and address her as male. Despite backing her husband’s infamous lifestyle, Kate has always supported him. However, Miller faces the possibility of spending five years in prison for raising fake bomb threat in 2018. It was gathered involved in hostile exchanges with a woman in the first-class car of Amtrack Train and taken to another train. Then, he placed an emergency call reporting that a female passenger had ‘a bomb in her bag’. Following his arrest, he lost his roles in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.
