Matt was born and raised in Queens, United States. He dropped out of high school at the age 16 to work full time and enroll in college. He received his bachelor’s degree from Queens College and the juris doctor from Fordham Law. He worked with Mayor Rudolph Giuliani as the youngest press secretary in New York City history during 9/11.

Matt is the CEO and co-founder of RSE Ventures. In 2012, Higgins and Stephen M. Ross, the owner of Miami Dolphins co-founded the RSE Ventures. The company has invested in various companies and technologies like Fan Vision, Thuzio and the Drone Racing League. Along with that, Matt and RSE have launched several companies like International Champions Cup which organizes soccer tournament and games bringing the best teams all around the world.

In addition to that, Higgins is also the vice chairman of the Miami Dolphins. He serves as an advisor to owner Stephen Ross on business and personal decisions. Before that, he worked for the New York Jets from 2004 to 2012 where he served as the executive vice president of business operations and advisor to Jets owner Woody Johnson.

Higgins was also the COO of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, where he was given task to rebuild the site of the World Trade Center. Higgins was recognized by Crain’s New York as one of the top 40 executives under 40 in New York in 2007. In 2011, Sports Business Journal selected him in their ’40 under 40’ list as one of the most outstanding executives in sports.
