Education

Career 

Penn made an appearance as an extra in the Little House on the Prairie, which his father, Leo, directed. Penn made his cinematic debut in the action movie Taps, in which he played a cadet in the military. He played surfer-stoner Jeff Spicoli in the smash comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High. His character helped popularise the term “dude” in popular culture.  Penn then starred in the drama Bad Boys as Mick O’Brien, as a troubled adolescent (1983). Penn received positive feedback for the part, which helped launch his career as a serious actor.
