Introduction
Bamidele Jermaine Alli, who is better known as Dele Alli, is an English professional footballer, who is currently playing for the Premier League Club, Tottenham Hotspur. After joining the Premier League club in 2015, Alli has been successful in progressing himself into a regular first team player having won the PFA Young Player of the Year in his very first year.
Early Life
Alli was born on 11 April 1996 in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. He started playing as a youth player for Milton Keynes Dons when he was only 11 years old. He continued to develop his skills at this club where he got to learn from some senior members. He eventually made his debut at the young age of 16 on 2012 against Cambridge City.
In this season, he was only getting to play some matches but this would change the next year when he started to get a lot more game time. This was a great season for him getting to play in a total of 37 matches throughout different competitions scoring 7 times in the process.
Career
MK Dons saw the potential that Alli possessed and offered him a contract until 2017. His confidence was at an all-time high giving consistent performances and helping the team by scoring many goals. Soon, in 2015, Tottenham Hotspurs announced that Alli had signed on a five-and-a-half-year deal for an initial fee of £5 million. He then returned to MK Dons for the remainder of the season winning the Young Player of the Year award at the Football League Awards.
Alli started playing for Tottenham in the 2015/16 season. He made his debut against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Many predicted that he would be a reserve player starting out and would get only limited chances. However, he proved many of his critics wrong scoring his first goal against Sunderland. Following an impressive start to his Premier League career scoring five goals and making three assists in his first 18 league matches, he was rewarded with a new long-term contract until 2021 on 12 January. This was a dream start for Alli, who subsequently won the 2015/16 PFA Young Player of the Year award.
There were high hopes for Alli in the new season. He soon made his Champions League debut in a losing effort against Monaco. One of his best waves of form came around January when he scored eight goals in six league matches winning him the Premier League Player of the Month that month. The world started taking attention to the young player and people started seeing him as a future great. He would be announced as among the men in the PFA Team of the Year for a second year in a row and again won the PFA Young Player of the Year award that year. In the next season however, he could not perform to such consistent high levels with many starting to criticize him again.
