Arike Ogunbowale is an American basketball player who is currently playing at the University of Notre Dame. She was named Most Outstanding Player of Notre Dame’s 2018 National title run.

Early Life

Arike was born on March 2, 1997, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She has been playing basketball from a very young age. Her mother Yolanda, was a softball player which definitely had an influence upon her interest in sports. She played as a pitcher on the DePaul University softball team. Her father Gregory Ogunbowale, on the other hand, is originally from Nigeria and played soccer and rugby in his days.

Even her siblings are athletes. Her older brother named Oluwadare was a running back at the University of Wisconsin and her cousin named Diamond Stone currently playes in the NBA’s G League.

Career

Arike has competency not only in basketball but in soccer as well. Her family background in sports has led her to live a life which has been full of sports. Her roots for sports doesn’t only apply to basketball, she is very good at soccer too. This can be proved with the fact that from 2009 to 2012, Arike was part of four Wisconsin State Cup winning soccer teams.

Arike attended Divine Savior Holy Angels High School in her hometown and with her help, the team won the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division I title. 2015 was a very big year for her where she would be named as Wisconsin Miss Basketball.

Her career highlight has definitely been winning the NCAA championship in 2018 where she would also land herself the award for Most Outstanding Player representing Notre Dame. This is a breakthrough moment in her career which has made her a public figure to note. With the potential that she possesses, it only looks to be a matter of time before she will be playing at the top level.

It has been announced that Arike is going to one of the participants in the 26^th season of Dancing with the stars. She is somewhat of an underdog for this competition as it will be a star filled event that includes some big athletes who have already accomplished many achievements in their respective fields and have established themselves as elites in their game.

Arike is partnering with professional dancer Gleb Savchenko for the competition. The competition is going to feature Johnny Damon, Jamie Anderson, Chris Mazdzer, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Josh Norman to name a few.
