Aaron Davis, who is better known by his stage name as Bugzy Malone, is an English rapper from Manchester. Malone can be considered as a pioneer to have taken the success of his grime genre to an international level.
Aaron Davis was born on 20 December 1990 in Crumpsall, Manchester. Malone comes from a very humble background. He didn’t come from a family of money as well as internal peace. Rather, Malone grew up in a poverty stricken household that included many family members that were actively involved in illegal activities. At a young age, his parents separated citing differences with one of the main reasons being domestic abuse. He even had to witness the death of his uncle in the face at the tender age of 11.
Because of the hostile environment that he grew up in, Malone also started to get into such activities. Such activities led to him being expelled from school when he was only 14 years of age. He even had a stint in prison but was eventually released from there at the age of 17. During this moment in his life, he was seriously thinking about pursuing boxing as a career. He was pretty good as well but sadly couldn’t make it in the professional level.
Rap would become one of his personal interests. When he was involved with a gang at the age of 13, he had developed a nickname of “Bugz” among his colleagues. They would rap together and at the same time be committing crimes. His freestyles got better every day and with the feedback he was receiving from friends, he started to seriously think of it as a career.
From a young age, Malone had this urge inside of him to do something significant in his life. He used to watch documentaries of inspirational personalities like Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson. He would envision himself with such success even in bad times. Grime was the type of music that was hardly heard of outside the area that Malone resided in. This was the type of genre that he grew up rapping with.
One of his earliest works was a mixtape called SwaggaMan back in 2010. He also had a YouTube Channel and many of his freestyles would be released in the YouTube Channel called Grime Daily as well. He would go on to release his next mixtape the following year with the title being “Why So Serious”. He started getting a bit more traction towards his music and went on to release a third mixtape called “Lost in Meanwhile City” in 2012.
Two years later, a fourth mixtape would be released called Journal of an Evil Genius . His consistency of quality even though there was quite a large quality of music in his mixtapes is one of the reasons that users started to really like his music. The genre was something that users were not used to and made it unique in its own way. Over time, he was able to garner millions of hits on his YouTube channel.
His next release Fire in the Booth would spark some controversy with fellow rapper Chip who got offended with the reference to “Chipmonk” in one of his songs. The feud among these grime rappers caught a lot of attention that would lead to more than 12 million hits for his music video. This feud went on for many months but most recently, the two grime rappers seem to have settled over this issue as they were recently pictured together.
Today, he has become one of the most popular grime artists in the UK following the release of his three EPs which have all landed in the UK Albums Chart top 10 with his latest release, King of the North peaking at No. 4.
