Early Life

Daniel Craig was born on March 2, 1968, in Chester, Cheshire, England. He was born Daniel Wroughton Craig is known as Daniel Craig. His father, Timothy John Wroughton Craig, was a midshipman in the Merchant navy and steel erector before setting up two pubs in Frodsham and Tarporley, respectively. He died in 2020 at 77 with his wife and two sons – Daniel and Harry beside his bedside after battling liver cancer. His mother, Carol Olivia, was an artist and art teacher at a school. Craig has an elder sister named Lea, who was three years older than him. 

In 1972, Craig’s parents got divorced as he was about to clock five. His mother remarried, and they moved to Liverpool, where he spent most of his childhood. They lived on Wirral Peninsula, where he attended his primary school. Daniel was introduced into the theatre after his father (Tim Craig) took him to a Cinema to watch his first James Bond Series, ‘Live and Let Me Die,’ with Roger Moore as the star actor. Angels in America gained wide reception, pushing Craig to feature in other films. From 1994 – 1999, Craig appeared on stage dramas, screen roles, television series, and TV shows. Craig played small-time thief George Dyer, who becomes the lover and muse of a painter Francis Bacon, portrayed by Derek Jacobi.

In 2000, he co-starred in Hotel Splendide, I Dreamed of Africa based on the life of Kuki Gallman, before featuring in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in 2001 alongside Angelina Jolie as the lead role. This movie endeared him to international viewers. He was also featured in the Channel 4 drama Sword of Honour. In 2002, he appeared in the Oscar-winning Crime film Road to Perdition alongside Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, and Jude Law. This means that Craig is the first actor to portray James Bond, who was born after the bond series started. James Bond lead actors have always had some physical features peculiar to them. Therefore, the choice of Daniel Craig, whose features contrast with the previous lead actors, started protest across the internet and among James Bond fans who called for the boycotting of the film upon its release. Although Craig was skeptical about accepting the role with the support from other actors, including the previous James Bond lead actors, he embraced the role and brought a new flay to it. In this latest James Bond, the character became more brutal, participated in fights, and paid less attention to the weaker sex.

His first film, as James Bond, Casino Royale, premiered on November 14, 2006, and become the second highest grossing Bond film after the release of sky fall, still played by him. Casino Royale received critical acclaim and debunked all the nay-sayers’ criticism about his appointment.

Though initially targeted to be released in November 2019, the Covid-19 pandemic further pushed the release to 2021. Since his last James Bond film, he has featured in Othello playing Iago, kings, knives out (2019). Craig has announced that No time to Die is his film in the series.
