Relationships
Gwyneth is undeniably pleasant and beautiful. Something that guys won’t be able to resist. She’s been in a couple of relationships, and fortunately, it seems she’s in good terms with all of her ex’s. We’ll try to shorten the list with specific relationships that seemed to make an impression with the media.
The Brad That Got Away
It was 1994 when Brad Pitt and Gwyneth met on the set of Se7en (1995). She played her ill-fated wife of Brad’s character, David Mills. Brad is also the guy who confronted Harvey Weinstein for unwanted acts towards Gwyneth. She’s around 20 years of age and they were still dating at that time. He warned the producer saying: “If you ever make her feel uncomfortable again, I’ll kill you.” From the words of Paltrow herself, she said: “It was so fantastic because what he did was, he leveraged his fame and power to protect me at a time when I didn’t have fame or power yet. He’s the best.”
The couple got engaged but unfortunately, they broke up in 1997. This decision came together with Paltrow’s young age and pressure from the media. From an interview made on the Howard Stern Show, Paltrow said: “I was such a kid, I was 22 when we met. It’s taken me until 40 to get my head out of my ass. You can’t make that decision when you’re 22 years old…I wasn’t ready, and he was too good for me.”
That Rough Relationship With Ben Affleck
Ben met Gwyneth at a Weinstein dinner in 1997 and both appeared in the 1998 film Shakespeare In Love. The two, according to people and the media, had great chemistry. It was in 1999 when the couple broke up and in an interview, Gwyneth refers to Ben’s ideal lady at the time as: “Any sort of stripper at Scores. Anyone that serves cold beer in a bikini.” In another interview with Diane Sawyer back in 2003, Gwyneth recalls Ben by saying: “He’s got a lot of complications, and you know, he really is a great guy. So I hope he sorts himself out.”
A few years later in an interview with Stern, it appears that Ben and Gwyneth became friends again. “He’s super intelligent and really, really talented and he’s funny. But he wasn’t in a good place in his life to have a girlfriend [when they’re still together].
The Relationship with Chris Martin
Gwyneth was still enclosed with sadness after her father’s death when she unwillingly attended a Coldplay concert with some friends where she met Chris Martin. They married in December 2003 in a private ceremony in a hotel in California and Gwyneth was pregnant at the time with their first kid, Apple. In 2006, the couple was blessed with another child Moses, whose name was derived from a song written by Chris for Gwyneth.
They primarily lived in London while still having both their properties at New York and L.A. In 2013, the lovely couple split-up. After the sad announcement, the two are still being seen together often times to co-parent their kids.
Her Marriage with Brad Falchuk
It was August 2004 when Gwyneth and Brad met on the set of Glee when she held a guest appearance on the show. They became an official couple after an Instagram post from Brad with a caption saying: “My date and I #screamqueens”. The couple announced their engagement in January of 2018 and got married later in September. The special day was held in a private ceremony in The Hamptons in New York.
In 2019, Paltrow revealed that they aren’t staying in the same house for a year. She said that Brad would only stay at her place 4 times a week then came back to his property. Eventually, in September of 2019, the couple seemed to have settled everything and Brad is ready to move to Gwyneth’s house.
Goop
Goop is a wellness and lifestyle company founded by Gwyneth back in 2008 in London. It started as a newsletter offering thoughts or insights towards her daily life. It became incorporated by 2011. She discussed the reference of the name Goop by stating that someone told her that having double Os would be lucky for online businesses. In recent days, it appears that the company has more or less 100+ employees on board. The company’s value as of early 2020 is around $250 million.
Controversies and NASA
Since it’s prominence, Goop has faced a handful of controversies from the items and ideas they’re selling. Most of the comments taken by Goop is the inappropriateness of ingredients used on their items, wrong marketing, and prices that not many can afford. Some are even pointing out the company’s use of pseudoscience.
Goop also had its conflict with NASA upon the release of Body Vibes, the wearable stickers that are said to re-balance the energy frequency in our bodies. One of the advertisements made of the item was: “made with the same conductive carbon material NASA uses to line space suits so they can monitor an astronaut’s vitals during wear.” which NASA denied as far as calling it bogus. The reference to NASA was then removed with the manufacturer of the stickers issuing an apology to NASA, Goop, and the customers.
Vagina Scented Candle
Gwyneth is friends with the owner of Heretic Perfume, Douglas Little, who does the fragrances for Goop. One day, they were off testing out different perfumes when she smelled something and jokingly referred to it as vagina scented. She said in the Jimmy Kimmel Show: “Wouldn’t that be cool if somebody actually had the guts to do that?” Gwyneth clarifies that it doesn’t really smell like a vagina but rather a masculine woody scent. She further narrate that “What a punk rock feminist statement to have that on your table. And then he made it. I thought he just made me one, as a joke, but then the next thing I knew, it was on my website.”
Love her or hate her, I’m pretty sure that Gwyneth made a big success on her acting and business careers and to sum everything she’s been through, she’s a tough lady to bring down. As Paltrow told The Edit in an interview: “I’ve had an extraordinary life, where things have happened in a huge way—huge success, huge joy, huge pain, huge loss. And the reason I feel happy today is because I’ve milked the f–k out of every opportunity. I haven’t made one mistake that I haven’t used as a stepping stone to get somewhere else. I’m ruthless when it comes to using the hard things.”
