Early Life and Education
Hanna Jazmin Jaff Bosdet was born on November 4, 1986, in San Diego, California, to a multicultural family. Her mother, Lilia Laura Bosdet, is Mexican and Catholic, while her father, Dawood Jaff, is a Kurdish Muslim businessman. The Jaff family carries significant historical weight—the Jaff tribe is a Kurdish dynasty spanning over 900 years, with a population of approximately four million members. Her grandfather, Dawood Beg Jaff, served as the former leader of the tribe, and Sherwana Castle serves as the ancestral home of the Jaff family.
Though born in California, Hanna spent much of her childhood between San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico. This bicultural upbringing profoundly shaped her sensitivity to issues of migration, belonging, and opportunity. She attended Saint John’s Episcopal Elementary School and University of San Diego High School before pursuing higher education. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with minors in Criminal Justice and Political Science from National University. She continued at prestigious institutions including Harvard University, Columbia University, Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico, and La Sorbonne University of Paris, eventually completing a Master’s degree in International Relations from Harvard University.
Career Highlights
In 2013, at just 25 years old, Hanna founded the Jaff Foundation for Education, a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching English to immigrants, refugees, and underserved populations worldwide. Through the foundation, she authored four self-taught English learning books specifically designed to help refugees and immigrant communities. She has volunteered in refugee camps across Iraq and Kurdistan, personally teaching English and donating approximately 22,000 of her books to communities in Peru, Kurdistan, Iraq, Mexico, India, and beyond. Within five years, the foundation had hosted more than 200 charity events worldwide and directly impacted more than 120,000 people.
Hanna gained international recognition as a television personality following her appearance in Netflix’s reality series Made in Mexico, which premiered in September 2018. Her visibility led to numerous speaking engagements at prestigious institutions. She has been a keynote speaker for the United Nations, University of California at Berkeley, the Milken Institute, and more than seventy universities and global forums. She has delivered presentations at three TEDx events. The United Nations named her Ambassador of Peace representing Tijuana, and in 2021 she was designated a Kindness Ambassador for UNESCO MGIEP. Forbes magazine recognized her as one of Mexico’s 100 Most Powerful Women in both 2019 and 2022.
Personal Life
In February 2020, Hanna married Henry Roper-Curzon, a member of British aristocracy who was a cousin to Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice. However, the marriage faced serious difficulties, and after two years, the couple separated due to financial and domestic abuse. This experience became part of Hanna’s broader advocacy for victims of domestic abuse.
Following this chapter, Hanna found love again with Francisco de Borja Queipo de Llano y Campomanes, the 6th Marquess of Guadiaro and eldest son of the 12th Count of Toreno and Grandee of Spain. She was married civilly in Madrid in September 2022, followed by a religious ceremony in Mexico City in February 2023. Together, they divide her time between homes in San Diego and Madrid. Through her various roles as philanthropist, reality television personality, human rights activist, and author, Hanna Jaff continues to leverage her unique position as a Mexican-Kurdish American to advocate for immigrant rights, refugee support, and global peace initiatives.
