Jason was born on February 18, 1983 in Chicago, Illinois. He went to Newman Smith High School in 2001 and then played college basketball for the University of Cincinnati from 2001 to 2005. He earned All-Conference USA second team honors in both junior and senior years.

During 2004-05 season, his 91 blocks was the second highest University of Cincinnati single-season total. He finished his college career scoring 1556 points and second on the UC career chart for the blocked shots with 252. He also played consecutive 129 games, the second longest streak in Bearcats’ history.

He was signed by Detroit Pistons in the 2005 NBA Draft. On October 31, 2008 he signed a four year contract extension with Pistons worth over $20 million. In 2013, he then signed with Orlando Magic for two year, $5 million contract and then signed with Charlotte Hornets in 2014.
