Introduction

Mohamed Salah is an Egyptian professional footballer who currently plays for Premier League Giants, Liverpool. The Chelsea flop has proven his worth in the 2017/18 season becoming the first player ever to win three Premier League Player of the Month awards in the same season. He also won the 2017–18 PFA Players’ Player of the Year and the Premier League Golden Boot scoring the highest number of goals in the season.

Early Life

Salah was born on June 15, 1992, in Gharbia, Egypt. He comes from humble beginnings having grown up in a village. However, this would not stop his love for football and started with youth football for the club El Mokawioon. After he turned 18 years old, he started playing in the senior team of the Egyptian Premier League.

In the coming year, his consistent performances lead him to becoming a regular player in the team. But, sadly in early 2012, the Egyptian Football Association announced their decision to cancel the remainder of the season because of the infamous Port Said Stadium disaster. This caused a lot of uncertainty among players and fans about football in the country.

Career

SalahBasel was a club that had been keeping an eye on the young Salah. He appeared in Egypt’s U-23 team to play against them and Basel was impressed with the winger. He was offered to come train with them for the remainder of the week and eventually put to pen a contract for four years on June 15, 2012. Salah was able to contribute to the team immensely in their Swiss Super League season 2012–13 Championship win and also finished runners-up in the Swiss Cup.

Salah now was attracting outside attention for his performances. Chelsea and Salah’s team agreed on a contract on January 23, 2014, signing with the club for a fee reported to be in the region of £11 million. Salah got opportunities in the early stages of his entry into the club but with time, he was finding it hard to get any play time. Eventually, Salah went on a loan move to Florentina for 18 months. His time there was pretty successful and though they offered him a permanent deal, Salah set his sights clear on a loan to Roma for €5 million, with availability of making the contract permanent after a year.

Some of his best performances came in a Roma shirt as he was named Player of the Season, finishing as the club’s top goal scorer with 15 goals in all competitions. His performances at Roma proved the potential that he possessed. Liverpool realized this potential and on 22 June 2017, he signed a deal worth  €42m for the Egyptian. This was a record fee by Liverpool that initially led to a lot of judgement over Salah.

He broke several records this season. He scored 36 times in his debut season for Liverpool, and also became the leading goalscorer in Europe’s top five leagues. On 22 April 2018, Salah was awarded the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award, having earlier been named in the PFA Team of the Year for the Premier League. He also helped his country immensely in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification. He scored a total of 5 important goals that helped Egypt reach the World Cup finals for the first time since 1990.
