Andrew Banks Biography

As mentioned above, Andrew was born in November 1951.  He is the fifth born among six boys. His father was a staff sergeant in the Medical Corps of the British Amy. On the other hand, the mother was born in Vienna and grew up in Gdansk, Poland. She was fluent in six languages.

The family moved from Lambeth to Chichester in 1961 where Andrew attended a local grammar school. He later got involved in amateur dramatic productions. After finishing the “O” levels and “A” levels he joined the London University to pursue a course in applied biology.

However, he did not complete his studies at the University. Andrew was in the institution for one year and a half. His university degree was put on hold after getting sponsorship to migrate to Australia. He arrived in Sydney, Australia back in 1972. Now banks reside in Los Angeles with his family. 

 

Family

His family has been kept private from the public eyes. Banks married his Australian girlfriend who is called Andrea Banks in 1974. The only child we know of is Sophia Banks her daughter. 

Andrew Banks Career

Andrew started his acting career through studies in Shakespearean Training at the Old Tote Theatre Company. Nowadays the theatre has been renamed to the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA). He was featured on various acting roles in Tv series Number 96 and also Old Tote Theatre Company’s production of Macbeth at Sydney Opera House in 1974.

Bank also had an eye on business, he bought into the Red Pavilion Bar and restaurant. The business is located in Woolloomooloo, Sydney. He has a partner by the name Soren Luno. However, the business was sold fourteen months later after he realized his first capital.    

Banks also had an interest in Human Resources. This particular interest started back while working with a French Oil Company known as Elf Aquitaine. He later returned to London where he was followed with Brown and Root which is now known as Halliburton. This also involved moves to Norway, USA and later back to the United Kingdom as a Regional Human Resource Director for Europe and Africa Marine Division.

In 1980 he returned to Australia and got a role as a recruiter with the famous Slade Consulting in Sydney. He was later tasked with the mandate to open and establish the new Brisbane office. After opening the branch he came back to Sydney and managed both offices until the year 1984 December.

In 1985 he formed a recruitment company with Geoff Morgan as a partner. The firm was known as Morgan and Banks which grew faster and had a market share of about 17 percent in Asia and Australia. The firm had a sale of over $ 850 million and went public in 1995.   

However, in 1999 the Morgan and Banks firm merged with TMP/Monster. The company is a NASDAQ listed and it is based in the United States. Andrew then spent 3 years in New York working for TMP Worldwide as Global Director. This position came with responsibilities as well. He was in charge of 4,500 staff operating in 32 countries and also responsible for over fifty acquisitions.

Banks launched Talent2 international in 2003 December. The firm is an ASX-listed and it mainly focuses on Human Resource Outsourcing and Executive Search Selection. Morgan served as a Non-executive Director on the board.

The company had various operations in 20 countries before being privatized in 2012.  The merge was made between Morgan and Banks Investments (IBM) and Allegis Group Inc. that is US-based.  The Allegis is the largest privately-owned staffing in the world.

The 100 % acquisition of the Talent2 by the Allegis Group Inc. was complete in 2014 July.  Banks served in the firm as an advisor until 2015 July.

Other than having been in the corporate world he is also a businessman. We can say his career as a businessman started back when he was still in the University. He stared as a part-time door to door salesman. This shows the passion he had for business.

Banks has been investing in various firms in Australia since 1988. His investments included residential hotels, commercial properties, property development, and home apartments.

Andrew Banks was a busy person other than investing in various properties, he also conducted business. The businesses he was involved in are online recruiting entities and cosmetics distribution.

In 2015 Banks featured in the famous reality Tv series Shark Tank. In the series, he invested in Synxsole, the Hamdog, and Bottlepops. Later in 2016, he returned to Season 2 of the program and also in 2017 in season three.

Interests

Despite being a businessman and a manager in various firms, he still has a passion for film and theatre. He was the Chairman of the National Institute of Dramatic Arts Foundation Trust (NIDA) until 2014when he resigned. However, he is still a Trust Director.

He also a founding partner and producer of production firm known as Lila 9th Productions. He is together with Cameron Lamb in the production firm. The production company has worked on various projects such as the Treasure Hunter which won the Sundance Award in 2014 and Daydream Nation.

Andrew Banks is also a member of the business leaders’ group World Presidents’ Organization (WPO). That is not all Morgan and Banks are authors of four books that talk about recruiting. The books are
