She has made her name by making videos that are related to fashion on YouTube which mostly consist of outfit ideas, makeup and hair tutorials, recipes, and do it yourself ideas. In recent years, she has also started doing relatable skits to attract more followers on her channel. She now has her own fashion line at Aeropostale making her an Entrepreneur as well.

Early Life

Mota was born on November 7, 1995, in Merced County, California. In one of her videos, she has mentioned that she was primarily homeschooled though for a short time, she also attended a public school. From a young age she had interest in acting and even sued to go to dance classes.

Mota first began uploading videos in 2009. Her intention was not to get millions of subscribers at first but rather as an escape from her daily life as at the time she was facing bullying which was having a negative effect on her life. Her positivity in her videos soon attracted a lot of subscribers which mostly comprise of female with a taste towards modern fashion.

Career

She began doing videos relating to fashion like tutorial and outfit ideas when there weren’t many people doing it. Today, a lot of people try this as making a living. However, being one of the earliest to start making videos relating to fashion, she began amassing millions of subscribers. It is hard to say if she had ever planned to be this big but its implications were that a lot of brands wanted to feature their products in her videos.

She also kept her fans engaged to her channel by offering various giveaways where she would award products and gifts to her subscribers. However, one of the highlights of her career came in 2015 when she got the rare opportunity to interview Barack Obama, who was the President of the United States at the time. She got this opportunity on January 22, 2015 as part of a Whitehouse initiative to reach out to a broader audience following his 2015 State of the Union Address.

She refers to her fans as “Motavators” and has even ventured into creating music to use her broad audience. On October 13, 2014, she released a single, “Need You Right Now”. She then went on to release another song called “Be Who You Wanna Be”. She has also gotten the opportunity to appear on television in the popular reality show called “Dancing with the Stars” in its 19th season as well as being a judge on the fashion related reality show called “Project Runway”. She also has her own book documenting key moments in her life in “Make Your Mind Up”.

Personal Life

She has done many successful campaign for brands but on one occasion it turned sour. Mota and her father were once sued for fraud after allegedly failing to deliver content for a skincare ad campaign.

She apparently had agreed to a contract to create videos and posts to promote a skincare brand across several social media sites. Mota should have been paid $325,000 for this deal. However, the company says that she didn’t do as mentioned in the contract and says that she and her father were not showing a positive attitude for it. But Mota’s side has said that this action is just to avoid paying the large sum that is owed to her.
